Exploring Columbus Metro Parks in Grove City

Two of Columbus’ best metro parks find their home around Grove City. Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park is a hidden gem where hikers and walkers can enjoy hours in the woods on ADA-accessible multi-use paths or moderate to difficult jaunts through grass and gravel trails along the waterways or woods. Kids love this park, which has a 9-acre natural play space near the Indian Ridge Picnic area; children can play and build with natural materials, expanding their minds while they create in nature. After they play, the on-campus Nature Center brings to life hands-on exhibits of the wildlife within the park; bison can be viewed from the viewing decks at the center or take the paths by the fenced enclosures. Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park is also an access point to the Ohio to Erie Trail; this 326 mile paved multi-use trail spans from Cincinnati, Ohio to Cleveland, Ohio with plenty to see and do along the way.

Scioto Grove Metro Park creates an outdoor haven for solo travelers, couples, and families to learn to fish in two catch-and-release ponds or on the banks of the Scioto River. Archery lovers and newbies will find the 3-D archery course with 12 foam animal targets an outdoor adventure not to be missed. Grab your disc golf bag and head out for 18 holes of fun.

Experience Paintings in 3-D

The Grove City Area Convention and Visitor Bureau has collaborated with local artists David Lane and Cody Wood to produce a captivating series of large-scale stereo paintings, showcasing the dynamic essence of Grove City, the resilience of the tight-knit community, and deep-rooted connection to its storied history.

Recognizing the unique power of stereo painting to offer visitors a site-specific encounter, Visit Grove City has embraced this innovative medium to showcase the diverse attractions of the vibrant locale. The immersive 3D exhibit seamlessly intertwines past and present, offering viewers a captivating journey through Grove City’s narrative as depicted in the art.

The Artists will be creating five distinctive murals; each painting masterfully compares Grove City’s historical legacy on the left with its contemporary vibrancy on the right. Using a specialized viewer, observers are treated to a mesmerizing fusion of both eras, transforming two-dimensional artwork into a captivating three-dimensional experience. Themes include Grove City High School’s Annual Alumni Softball Tournament, Bison at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park, canoeing on the Big Darby, and more. As of 2023, “Game Time” is the only mural completed and can be viewed at Fryer Park.
