Are you craving a fun-filled escape with your closest gal pals? Look no further than Grove City, Ohio – a charming destination packed with delightful surprises at every turn. Let me share the fun of our recent girls’ getaway in Grove City as we uncovered the treasures of this vibrant city!
Home Away from Home: Home 2 Suites-Tru Combo
Our adventure began with a cozy stay at the Home 2 Suites-Tru combo. Its welcoming atmosphere and kid-friendly amenities made it the perfect home base for our getaway. We stayed in the double studio with a pull-out couch that could comfortably sleep six. Our suite had a kitchenette with all the comforts of home to prepare a leisurely breakfast or light dinner. We enjoyed the indoor pool in the evening and worked out in the fitness room, which even had a Peloton bike.
The common area in the Hilton Home 2 Suites and Tru is what really makes this hotel a great place to stay. A pool table and larger-than-life Sorry game make evenings here filled with laughter and fun.
Tip: The flexibility to choose between Home 2 Suites and Tru breakfast areas is fantastic; from pancakes to waffles and everything in between, we were drooling and trying everything.
Culinary Delights: Fusion Flavors and Gigantic Pretzels
We kicked off our culinary journey with a mouthwatering lunch at 3 Brothers Diner, indulging in their unique Cuban-Mexican fusion cuisine. If you are gluten-free, no worries—they will make your food for you so that you can enjoy every bite. I personally love their enchiladas, and the homemade guacamole is fantastic.
At Grove City Brewing Company, you will want to try the mammoth-sized pretzel—every bite was a taste sensation! The menu here is perfect for everyone, from picky eaters to those with a refined palate. Plus, the drink options are perfect for an evening out with the girls. During our visit, we tried the brussels sprouts appetizer, and it was a favorite.
Broadway Plates and Pints is a newly opened gastropub where we had a laid-back lunch of flavorful burgers, homemade fried pickles, and delicious Caesar salads. This casual joint was just right for a light lunch.
Spend the Afternoon Doing Retail Therapy
As the girl outing continued, we embarked on a shopping spree. We spent time at the Ohio Thrift Store and explored the historic district, discovering hidden gems at every boutique. Grove Sheek Boutique and The Look on Broadway are home to stylish outfits for young and mature ladies; Sommer House & Co. provides fine in-house framing and is now hosting a new business called the Butterfly Boutique, which will open Mother’s Day weekend. We meandered around Country Hearth Primitives, where rented booths were filled with all kinds of kitschy treasures.
The Farm Table has recently gained new owners and is filled with every kind of item to make a house a home, and they have classes for you and your friends to indulge in. Check their website for a variety of items that can be personalized and plan a night with them after shopping.
Hike an Outdoor Adventure
The girls and I braved the Ohio weather, which can be all four seasons in 24 hours. The adventure began at Scioto Grove Metro Park, where we climbed the fire tower for breathtaking views and experienced the thrill of crossing a swing bridge. This is a park where you could spend the day enjoying all the things by just being outdoors. Check the Columbus Metro Parks’ website to see if there are any programs during your visit. They offer a range of activities throughout the year.
Sugary Indulgences and Brain Teasers
No girls’ getaway is complete without a sweet treat, and Strawser’s Ice Cream, Pop & Candy Shop certainly delivered. Within minutes, our shopping basket was filled with retro candy and bottles of soda that we picked out from their large selection. No stop here is complete without a root beer float with some hand-dipped ice cream. That disappeared quickly!
Capping off our evening, we put our minds to the test at Conundrum Rooms, attempting to solve a daring heist-themed escape room. We knew we had to work fast as we attempted to find the first clue; getting that first step done took the longest. Though we may not have escaped, the laughter and camaraderie made it a memorable experience.
Unleashing Our Creativity: Candle Making and Coffee Sipping
Our final day in Grove City was spent indulging our creative sides at a candle-making workshop and savoring aromatic brews at a local coffee shop. Transcend Coffee + Roastery started the morning off with some bagel sandwiches and fresh-brewed coffee. One of the best things about Transcend is the in-house coffee roaster. When it is running, the whole place fills with the beautiful, rich smells of coffee beans.
Next door to the coffee shop is The Chandler; as we opened the door, the heavenly scent of the scents we could choose from met us at the entrance. Taking our chairs at the counter, we began the process of making our unique blended candle.. You can reserve an hour block of time for your candle-making experience, or you can just walk in. I thought this wouldn’t be too long, but it took us every minute to find our perfect blended scent, pick out a container, and pour our candle.
Tip: When planning your itinerary, make this one of your first activities for the day and head to lunch or one of the fun shops while your candle sets. The folks at The Chandler will make sure there are no air bubbles and that your candle cures beautifully.
